"There's plenty here to get one's teeth into, not least at Brilliant's advantageous price bracket, and a variety of works, both big and small, well-known and obscure. As with the Gilels I would say that concerns over provenance will be swept away by the riches to be found in these ten excellently filled but minusculely annotated discs."

Mstislav Rostropovich has an unsurpassed international reputation. "Slava” needs no further introduction. His performances as a cellist, a conductor and accompanist on the piano are well-loved all over the world. He is recognized as one of those rare universal musicians.

This Edition features Rostropovich exclusively on the cello both as a soloist in concertos with orchestras and in a varied chamber repertoire. As such he inspired many composers to write for him. Some of these works are included in this Edition.

All-Russian historical recordings of solo concertos with orchestra dating from 1957 to 1972 (7 CD's). For example those by Prokofiev, Miaskovsky, Glazunov and Dvořák, but also earlier work by Schumann and Haydn.

3 CD's with chamber music, mainly cello sonatas with piano accompaniment. Includes the sonata by Khatchaturian with the composer himself at the piano. Also two of the solo cello suites by Bach and Britten.

Unique set bringing together well-loved pieces like Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme and mainly with Rostropovich connected works such as Knipper's Concerto-Monologue and Vainberg's cello concerto.

Good wine needs no bush!
